The Cure's Long-Awaited Grammy Victory
After five decades in the music industry, The Cure finally claimed their first Grammy Awards. Their 14th studio album, 'Songs Of A Lost World', released in 2024, received a well-deserved nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. The album's lead single, 'Alone', was also nominated for Best Alternative Music Performance, and the band won both awards. Unfortunately, The Cure couldn't attend the ceremony due to the recent passing of bandmate Perry Bamonte, who died at 65.
This marks a significant milestone for the band, as they've been nominated for Grammy Awards before, but never won. In 1993, they were nominated for Best Alternative Music Album with their iconic album 'Wish', and in 2001, they received a nomination for 'Bloodflowers'. This year's nominees in the Best Alternative Music Album category included Bon Iver for 'SABLE', Hayley Williams for 'Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party', Tyler, The Creator for 'Don't Tap The Glass', and Wet Leg for 'Moisturizer'. The Best Alternative Music Performance category saw nominations for Bon Iver's 'Everything Is Peaceful Love', Hayley Williams' 'Parachute', Turnstile's 'Seein' Stars', and Wet Leg's 'Mangetout'.
The Cure had been hinting at a new album as early as October, sparking excitement among fans. This Grammy win not only celebrates their enduring talent but also highlights the impact of their music across generations.
