Nansana: Sudanese Family Under Scrutiny After Domestic Worker's Death from Alleged Beating
The Nansana police have initiated an investigation into a Sudanese family accused of causing the death of their domestic worker through severe beating. The incident has caused tension and shock among the residents of Nabweru South Cell 1, who witnessed the chaotic scene as police sealed off the home.
According to residents, the domestic worker was rushed to a nearby clinic but was declared dead upon arrival. A medical officer at the clinic stated, 'They brought the girl with a very deep wound on her head, but she had already passed on.'
Police officers who entered the residence prevented journalists from taking photographs. Inside the home, officers detained the housewife, who is now assisting with the investigation. It is alleged that the victim's body had been removed from the scene before the police arrived.
Residents reported seeing suspicious items being hurriedly moved out of the house. One resident said, 'We saw them taking things out of the home wrapped in sacks, and we started wondering what was going on. Later, we discovered that the worker had been beaten and had died.'
Local security officer for Nabweru South Cell 1, Denis Ssekatawa, described the incident as disturbing and called for public cooperation as inquiries continue.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala confirmed the ongoing investigation. She stated, 'We have begun inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death of the worker. Several people, including the medical officer, have been taken in to assist with the investigation.'
Police stated that the suspects will remain in custody as detectives piece together what happened, including verifying reports that the victim suffered a severe head injury prior to her death.
